day out in Buxton.

 Rob Wilson.
At buston there was a art gallery on, I came across Rob Wilson work which he had rightfully named 'Mixed Media' I have taken a few photo's of his work which I really like and has given me inspiration for my couture boards for college.
He uses water colour, stitch, text, layering and patch work. He also adds differnt textiled pieces of material.
Here is a close up of the stitch work on Wilsons amazing pieces.
In my own work I add text into most of it as I feel words are so important and can relate to so many situations and people.

 Made from recycled magazine paper.
I found this while brousing around
the shops. Its a great way of re-
creating art from something you may
not want anymore. Also the random
colours make it unique and different.
This is the most amazing telephone
I have ever seen! At 59.99 it was
a little out my price range but one
day I will own one just the same.
To end the day we stop off at the
sweet shop. Having the old fashioned
pots of sweets and it being
arranged by colour. It was a like
walking into Willie Wonkers shop.

MUSE ME.

I want to say Lily Donaldson is my muse I feature her in most of my sketchbook work. Then I got to thinking what is a muse? How are they used to inspire people? How do they create that spark a designer or photographer thrives off?

Karl Lagerfeld
Baptiste Giabiconi is Karl's new muse for 2011. ‘I see both a man and a woman in him at the same time.’ says Lagerfeld. 'I see something in him that I don’t see in other people, something in the way he carry's himself'.' I can totally relate to what the amazing designer is saying Giabiconi has a distinct unique look which I love. I have never seen him before but imagine he will be around for a long time.

Marc Jacobs

This amazingly perfected faced boy is Marc Jacob's muse. I have never seen such a beautiful looking 19 year old boy ever. His defined eye brows and remarkable cheek bones also modeling some a womens wear in Paris wearing a Jean Paul Gaultier wedding dress. He's in demand for top end designers such as Vivienne Westwood doing Italian and Paris vogue.

After researching into muse's and how they create excitment and change the way others think about fashion I think Lily Donaldson is a great muse and I will continue to use her as my audience and customer for my work.

LE GUN.

Le Gun is a group made up of 6 illustration and graphic artists. I came across their work in I-D magazine. I particularly love their work as I feel it has both old techniques with a new modern twist. Also they use a wide range of media such as photography, fine liner, garments and paint. A few pieces of their work are 3D for example 'the unknown room' which was a room they had designed and illustrated. They have a very small colour pallet keeping it very basic and simple like how I work.

Toile.

Starting my toile is always going to be a bit daunting for me as it one of my weakness's. However I began with an open mind to try and get as much done at college with the help I would need as I can easily get confused and misunderstand pattern cutting books.
The design I toiled is a very tight fitting design using latex material.

I began my pattern pieces using a swim wear pattern cutting book. I had to adjuct the blocks by making them smaller. I started with the sleeve. I took of center meters off either side of the pattern and down the center front, I did this by folding the paper over on the center front taking one center meter off. I also took a center meter off the elbow line. I then adjucted the sleeve head shape.

I then moved onto the bodice, on my design the front bodice is split into two section due to using two different colours. I began by changing the neck line as its low cut one to fit my design. I didn't want any seams on my bodice so I took out the darts by using the slash and spread technique. Also taking off a center meter off the bust line. I then cut the bodice into two pieces along the readjusted bust line.

Last I had the trousers to change. I began by measuring the dart and taking it off the side of the touser on both the front (3cm) and the back (4cm) to apply it making it tight. Also taking a center meter off the both the front sand back trouser along the grain line. I then took a 0.5 center meter off trouser seam.

I then drew around the first drafts to get my final patterns adding on 0.5 seam allowence. I then cut them out and placed them onto my matterial. I found it quite hard with the fabric being so stretchy, cutting the material was also abit of a struggle and not very neat. I began with the touser blocks. Sowing both the legs together inbetween the front and back pieces I inserted a piece of matterial inbetween the front and back touser which I would stuff to make it 3D like my design. I did both legs and then atteched them. I moved onto the bodice doing both front bodices and attching them. Next I did the sleeve then added it to the bodice.
I then had to attach both the bodice and the tousers together. I had no idea how to go about doing this. I decided to attach it how I would with a sleeve. I tuen the bodice inside out and then pinned it to the tousers and sowed along it. The fit was not perfect and next time i would make the bodice smaller.

finally gone gaga.

I found this image while looking aaround people's blog. I-D magazine is my favourite fashion magazine of all even though I buy all the obvious fashion mags.

I cant believe what the cover is, at first I thought it had been done on photoshop. Then i relised it was Lady GaGa and was still suprised she would even go to that extreme. We get that she wants to be weird, her clothes say that but having impants in your face gaga is so uncalled for and a little bit hard to look at!

my illustration.

This is one of my illustration boards for a college brief. The market level for this board is FAD, I wanted to keep it very basic and use limited media and technique as I feel its the only way I can make it look FAD based.

I began by drawing out the face and facial features. I had previously made a board where I created these strange faced people. I took ordinary facial features and made them more defined and use bold lines, I wanted to develop this illustration style I had started to see if I could adapt it to different styles. Also I picked one of my designs from a collection I'm going to create to feature on my illustration board. I kept the basic shape of the garment the long neck feature and 3D arms.

Next i added more detailing to the face, such as eyebrows, eye lashes and beauty spot. Also adding the hair to my illustration with a ruler to make the lines perfectly straight.
Then i used fine liner to go over the pencil markings when i was happy with the illustration. I added a spot of colour to the eyes making them a light blue crayon and lips with a red felt tip. I didn't want the colours to be a block of colour or to be to bold.

Using black ink I made a line alone the edge of the arms and used a paint brush dipped in water to make the colour run and give the effect of it fading lighter to the bottom.

Adding blue ribbon down the side for some texture and also wired bows on the other side for small detailing.

I then added lyrics onto the ribbon which said 'you keep the sunshine'. Also I added flower stickers to the background as i felt it was to pain and looked unfinished.

I am very glad with the outcome and feel that less is more with my FAD board. I plan on using lyrics on all my board to keep a running theme that makes my work recognisable also as music is such a good link with fashion and represents my personality too. I am starting to feel that finally I have my own style and now I want to experiment and make it stronger.

CHANEL HC SS 2011 - DETAILS OF THE COLLECTION

This haute couture video by chanel is a great way of showing the detailing in these amazing bespoke pieces. From a catwalk you wouldn't get to sence of time and effort that had been put into these garments. The hand stitch beading and embrodery is perfection which Chanel does so well. The materials used looks weightless, delicate and has a softness even with the intense detailing. As a video I feel this works very well. Fashion is being shown more in video's now to add more creativity and to show off designers latest garments and collections. As a visual person I love that video is now becoming a hugh part in fashion and more and more designers are using it and letting their creative genius run feel and be captured for on lookers to see.
